The story initially describes the invasion of Normandy during World War II,after Captain Miller and his surviving men return from the invasion of Normandy, they get a mission,to find and bring back Private Ryan, a paratrooper from the 101st Airborne division who is missing and all three of his brothers were killed during the war.
Captain Miller goes to the mission with his 7 other surviving soldiers, without any information about Ryan's location, the team goes through several places and loses some of the soldiers along the way, until eventually they find Private Ryan while he and another group of paratroopers are protecting a bridge near the Ramelle River from the Germans, Captain Miller informs Private Ryan about his brother's death and about the order to bring him home, but Ryan refuses to leave. in the end Ryan, Captain Miller and the soldiers fight against the Germans on the bridge, but at the end of the battle,only 3 soldiers survived and Captain Miller was killed.
