why don't we loot in the first place? because we agree to abide by certain rules in a society. the police have repeatedly broken those rules that we all agree to.
we say that no one is above the law, yet time and again the police prove that to be false.
we say it's wrong to kill people, going so far as to have removed the death penalty in many states, yet still police have killed innocent people.
so, when the state, who should be most protective of the social contract, breaks it, why shouldn't we?
when the police continue to perform acts of brutality during protests against police brutality, it's pretty clear they aren't getting the point. escalation, therefore, is necessary.
my point is that you have the right to retaliate and break the law when other people do. that doesn't necessarily mean that doing so is correct, and there are likely more effective ways to break the law than by targeting business, which brings me to...
i've said it in many other places here, but ideally looting would focus on government buildings and police stations since that's who were protesting here. i would also include the homes of politicians, you should protest outside those and let them know you're upset.
