story report: the name of the wind- patrick rothfuss
summary of the story:
an historian that was robbed on the way arrives an inn that's called "the milestone", which is managed by a redhead man named kvothe.
kvothe is a man that became a legend and is described in stories as a criminal who is cooperating with demons.
the historian comes to an agreement with kvothe: kvothe will tell the historian his life story in 3 days, and after that the historian will go away. kvothe starts telling his story: he was a child to a travelling group, and after the group receives an arcanist (who are the magicians of the book), kvothe begins to study with him. suddenly revealed, little kvothe is smarter than usual - much smarter. the book tells about his childhood in the trailer, his days of poverty in the city terbian as a stone broke orphan until his admission to the university (that among others, taught him arcanist) and his history as a student there.
details about the hero:
kvothe has pale skin and green eyes (but the intensity of his eyes changes throughout the series). his eyes are similar to the description of his mother's eyes. he has extremely red hair (like fire or flame).
favorite quote:
perhaps the greatest faculty our minds possess is the ability to cope with pain. classic thinking teaches us of the four doors of the mind, which everyone moves through according to their need.

first is the door of sleep. sleep offers us a retreat from the world and all its pain. sleep marks passing time, giving us distance from the things that have hurt us. when a person is wounded they will often fall unconscious. similarly, someone who hears traumatic news will often swoon or faint. this is the mind's way of protecting itself from pain by stepping through the first door.

second is the door of forgetting. some wounds are too deep to heal, or too deep to heal quickly. in addition, many memories are simply painful, and there is no healing to be done. the saying 'time heals all wounds' is false. time heals most wounds. the rest are hidden behind this door.

third is the door of madness. there are times when the mind is dealt such a blow it hides itself in insanity. while this may not seem beneficial, it is. there are times when reality is nothing but pain, and to escape that pain the mind must leave reality behind.

last is the door of death. the final resort. nothing can hurt us after we are dead, or so we have been told.
i like this quote because it explains how he dealt with the loss of his parents. also, this quote helps me in difficult moments it shows me the levels in life and helps me overcome them
a recommendation:
kvothe, the hero, is a thief, a murderer and a miserable liar. he's not perfect. but he is perfect. as the book itself says - "cute as the moon: not flawless maybe, but perfect". quote i liked, by the way. his high language, the imperfect but perfect character of the protagonist, the intricate simplicity of it, the new world - the old one discovered while reading it - are all woven together into one rich and high quality name - the name of the wind.
highly recommended.
