there is parts in this book which made me get excided. the family and the residents of the island had hard days of hungry. there also was a desease which caused death of lots. i felt sorry for the youngest kid in the family, the main character's brother who loved him very much and was connected to him but he died from the desease. the father of the family has
had to be away from home for months in order to support his family so the girls in the family had to deal with difficults and i really admire their overcoming. the relations between the sidlings were jealousy, hating and anger. i especially liked the unique connection between the main character to the nearby animals. bears, rubits, a raven and a dog. she talked to them with looking, body movement and they understood each other.
i really connected to the hero. she's not the biggest in the family but she had resourcefulness in hard and suffering times. she contained other's pain and did everything for the family. it's not a book that i would choose normally but it was intersting to get known with life stile from the past.
