the plot tells about a girl named hazel who is sick with thyroid cancer and her parents forced her to join a support group and there she met a boy named augustus who was a basketball player until they found out he was sick with prostate cancer
hazel and augustus became good friends
hazel was obsessed with the book "a royal pain" and forced augustus to read the book
augustus became almost as obsessed with the book as she was and the two teamed up to fly to amsterdam to meet the author of the book. they were able to fly to amsterdam thanks to the "make a wish" association
that made augustus' dream come true
hazel was afraid to fly because she was afraid that because of the closeness between augustus would hurt when hazel died
in the end she decides to be good with him and the meeting with the writer did not go as expected
augustus reveals to hazel that his cancer has returned and asks her and their other friend from the support group to write him an obituary
a few days later augustus died and hazel and their friend read the eulogy at the funeral
after the funeral hazel finds out that augustus wrote her an obituary if he had lived and she would have died and she met the author of the book she loves and he tells her that his daughter had cancer and therefore their meeting was bad because he had memories of his daughter when he met her
hazel suggests he go to a support group
and hazel never stopped loving augustus
